How to Write and Implement a Storm Water Pollution Protection Plan Course Syllabus

Technical Level of Course Materials: Basic

Target Audience: Engineers, Contractors, Consultants, and Inspectors

Course Description: Let's get back to the basics and the best place to start is at the beginning, before construction begins, with the Storm Water Pollution Protection Plan (SWPPP). No longer will you have to fear the inspector coming to your site and reviewing your SWPPP. This course is designed to take you, the attendee, through a step-by-step process of writing and implementing an effective SWPPP. You will learn how to keep your SWPPP active, up to date, and available for review. You will also learn how your SWPPP drives your Best Management Practices (BMPs) to effectively control storm water pollutants from leaving your site. The SWPPP is the focus of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System storm water permit, and is vital in identifying and preventing pollutants from being carried off in storm water discharges from a permitted site.

Learning Objectives:
The regulations associated with storm water discharge
How to identify potential pollution sources
Calculating water shed flow rates
How to write a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
How to maintain your SWPPP from Notice Of Intent (NOI) to Notice Of Termination (NOT)

Course Outline:

  1. Introduction
  2. Site Planning and Design Development Phase
